CHEMICAL PEELS
Make every moment a glowing one.
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
Chemical peels increase the skin’s cell turnover rate, bring new skin cells to the surface, diminish dark spots, reduce fine lines & wrinkles, clear breakouts as well as restore a youthful and radiant appearance. They can be done alone or combined with other cosmetic procedures. And they can be done at different depths, from light to deep. Deeper chemical peels offer more-dramatic results but also take longer to recover from.
Depending on your skin’s sensitivity, it is normal to experience a variety of side effects as your skin goes through the post-peel renewal process.
Professional peel side effects can include redness, dryness, itching, or irritation as well as swelling, tightness, peeling, or scabbing. Within 2-3 days, the skin may look flaky or tan as the outermost surface peels off to make room for more radiant, new skin. You may also notice temporarily more pronounced discoloration or age spots as they rise to the skin’s surface before getting sloughed away.

WHEN WILL THE SKIN BEGIN TO PEEL?
Your skin will start to peel 48-72 hours after the treatment and can last 2-7 days. You should avoid pulling or picking any peeling skin. Proper post-peel skin care can help minimize any sensations or visible side effects of a peel.
WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE?
After receiving a PCA SKIN® professional treatment, you should not necessarily expect to “peel.” However, light flaking in a few localized areas for several days is typical. Most patients who undergo these treatments have residual redness for approximately one to 12 hours post-procedure.
- To minimize side effects and maximize results, use the Post Treatment Aftercare Kit (Available in-studio) for three to five days or until flaking has resolved.
Stay cool! Heating internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
- Do not put your face directly into a hot shower spray.
- Do not use a hot tub, steam room, or sauna.
- Do not participate in activities that will cause excessive perspiration.
- Do not use loofahs or other means of mechanical exfoliation on the treated area(s).
- Do not direct a hair dryer onto the treated area(s).
- Do not apply ice or ice water to the treated area(s).
- As with all peels and treatments, it is recommended that makeup not be applied on the day of treatment, as it is ideal to allow the skin to stabilize and rest overnight; however, makeup may be applied 15 minutes after the treatment if desired.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Apply SPF 30 or higher.
- Moisturizer should be applied at least twice a day but can be applied more frequently for hydration and to decrease the appearance of flaking.
- Do not pick or pull any loosening or exfoliating skin. This could cause hyperpigmentation.
- Discontinue use of Retin-A, Renova, Differin, and Tazorac five days post-treatment. (Consult your physician prior to temporarily discontinuing prescribed medications).
- It is recommended that other topical, over-the-counter medications, or alpha hydroxy acid products not be applied to the skin seven days post-procedure, as they may cause irritation.
- Do not have electrolysis, facial injections, facial waxing, or use depilatories for approximately five days or more.
- ABSOLUTELY do not go to a tanning booth for at least three weeks before or after treatment. This practice should be discontinued due to the increased risk of skin cancer and signs of aging.
- As recommended above DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER PROCEDURE UNTIL YOUR CLINICIAN ADVISES YOU TO DO SO.
